The 3 Signs You’ll Thrive in Chiropractic Practice or Struggle
Mar 11, 2025
I can tell within minutes of meeting a doc if they are going to THRIVE in practice, or if they are headed for struggle.
How do I know?
There are three tell tale signs someone will THRIVE in practice.
1. They have a compelling why....when I ask a doc why they want to open their own practice, if they say to make more money, for autonomy in practice or they want more freedom, I know they are heading for trouble. When you FIRST open a practice, you make less, work more and are bound to that practice for endless hours. It's those who say things like I can "work" into all hours of the night but it doesn't feel like work, or I am in-joy when I'm serving patients, are the folks I know are going to cruise by and have a THRIVING practice. You can't look at a doc who has been in practice for 20 years, driving the fancy cars, taking time away, investing in other hobbies or business, and possibly think it has always been that way. Its screenings every weekend, staying at the office until 9, or 10, o'clock at night, missing kids sports, doctors appointments, dances, and back to school nights, for years before you make more, and have more freedom. Thriving in business, providing for your family, providing exceptional life experiences and making accommodations for all of those things when you can't be there, IS putting your family first.
2. People who will THRIVE in practice are those who take immediate action. They reach decisions promptly, because they know what they want and generally get it! That is the major reason they are leaders. Indecision is a habit that usually begins in childhood and continues on into adulthood. It's the docs that take immediate action, who are going to be successful. Those who hem and haw over the decision are never going to fulfill their greatest potential because they are not going to have the skills and tools they need to reach their greatest God given potential.
3. The docs who are bitching and moaning about their lot in life, their student loans holding them back or what their employer is paying them are going to struggle hard in their own practice. Why are some people successful despite the fact that they too graduated with outrageous loans while others are not. It's because those who are successful didn't focus on the debt. They set up payments on autopilot and forget about them, so they could focus on their dreams, goals, serving their communities, and focus on things that inspire them, instead of deflate them. If you feel that your employer is not paying you enough, then take action, do something about it. Chiropractors don't eat their young. It's the same in every industry....if you are providing value, producing in the practice, contributing to the growth of the practice, and taking good care of your practice members you will be paid well. If you can't adjust, the practice declines, patients don't want to be adjusted by you, and the practice starts to have more complaints than accomplishments, then you don't deserve to be paid well, until you have the skill to contribute to the practice.
